About Us

In alchemy, an “alembic” is a vessel used to “distill, clarify, or make clear”. At Alembic Media, our mission is to take complex, technical, and sometimes-disjointed thoughts and transform them into easily read and understood marketing and communications content that helps our clients better connect with their customers and target audiences.

David Schmidt founded Alembic Media in 2009 with the goal of helping companies of all sizes achieve outstanding written-communications results. We strive to deliver a customized experience for each client, and we work hard to ensure that we consistently deliver a great value. We’re happy to collaborate with a client’s in-house marketing and communications teams, but we also have the experience to manage projects with minimal oversight and deliver great results, on time, on target, and on budget.

In addition to his work at Alembic Media, David has won numerous international awards for his editorial work, and his writing has appeared in media outlets as diverse as The New York Times; Backpacker, Beyond (Alaska Airlines’ in-flight publication), Climbing, Cruising World, The Fretboard Journal, Rock and Ice, SAIL, Sailing World, Trail Runner and Yachting magazines, and Sail-World.com. He currently serves as a sailing correspondent for The New York Times International Edition, as a columnist and editor at Yachting magazine, and as the North American editor of Sail-World.com. Additionally, he is a contributor to Cruising World and Sailing World magazines.

When David Schmidt isn’t writing, sailing, adventuring in the mountains, or traveling, he can usually be found playing his acoustic guitars.
